The “Nine Logs” of Changi

Was watching this show that was introducing various quirks in Singapore. One that caught my attention was the “Nine Logs” of Changi. When a developer knocked down a century-old tree to make way for new “money trees”or rather, condominiums; it surprisingly caused quite an uproar with residents and nature lovers here. Knowing Singaporeans, I was impressed to find out that there are people who actually care. The huge plant was cut into 9 logs and disposed of. A group of artists wrote in to bid for the logs, subsequently turning them into 9 logs of art. They craved the logs based on various themes giving the tree a new “life”. These logs were then “adopted” by the Singapore Zoo which displays and looks after them now. 3 Hips & Hoorays for them!
